Look for beauty in the things we do for ourselves,
unencumbered by some external presence...
Those thoughts, those actions,
The daily world of the totally private,
Delve into that world from another perspective.
Look for beauty in the untold dross of everyday life.
It will be beautiful because it is honest.
Honesty...
Remember what that word means?
Remember the days of your youth,
When the emotional response was the only response?
When a simple injustice bore the weight of the world?
And now... Think now of what you've done -
What atrocities of the human spirit you've committed,
In the name of reason, goodness, or family.
Think of the lives you're ending
With the fires you've started.
And then ask yourself why the smoldering ruins
Smell so familiar.
